Magistrate in Migori law court frees a 28-year-old changaa brewer
Evlyne Awuor,28, was today accused of brewing and selling illegal changaa at her home in Magongo village, Uriri sub-county.
She was arrested and detained at Migori police station in June,9 2021 by the police officers who were on patrol.
She was convicted and arraigned in Migori law court today where she pleaded guilty of the accusations but requested the court to pardon her and render her an opportunity to go venture in a legal business. She also claimed she has never been arrested.
The accused also confirmed the 10 liters changaa used against her in court as an evidence as hers.
Migori law court magistrate, Ann Kerubo, therefore decided to release her uncharged after keen consideration of her plea.
She apologized and pleaded with the court to set her free to go home and save her three young children six years old, two years and eight month of age who she claims she left stranded under nobody’s guidance at her time of arrest.
The court magistrate in her ruling, freed the accused to go venture in another business and take care of her three young children.
“This court leaves you uncharged for the mistake but warns you not to be found indulging in this illegal business within a period of one year from the day of your discharge and any arrest within this period will call for harsh charges against you,” Ann said
