Sensing Defeat? Ruto’s UDA Party Withdraw From Eldas Ward By-election Because Of This

Deputy President William Samoei Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party has officially announced their withdrawal from the Eldas ward by-election slated for October 14, 2021, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has said.

In their press release, the UDA party has formally settled to withdraw from the race because the Eldas community has expressed interest in supporting a family member of the departed Member of county assembly Hon. Ibrahim Abbas. Notable the deceased was holding the position under the UDA party.

They added that the United Democratic Alliance party stands with the family of the late Abbas and will respect the wishes of the family of Wldas ward, Wajir County.

They cited that UDA is committed to continuing working with the people of Eldas Ward and wider community of Wajir.

This comes as Wafula Chebukati, the IEBC Chairman, had earlier asked each political party intending to participate in the by-elections to submit the names of the persons contesting in a party primary and the date of the party primary on or before Wednesday, August 4, 2021.

The IEBC boss further noted that the campaign for the byelections shall commence on, Wednesday, August 25 2021 and cease on Monday, October 11, 2021, being 48 hours before the by-election Day.

The Campaign time shall run from 7.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. during the campaign period.
