End Curfew now, Kenyans Demand After The Deaths Of These Two People
Kenyans have continued calling for an end to the 10 PM to 4 AM nationwide curfew imposed across the country as a measure put in place to contain the spread of Corona virus.
Several social media users have taken to online advocacy calling upon the government to completely abolish the curfew. For the past few days, the hashtag #EndCurfewNow has been one of the most dominant trends on Twitter in the Kenyan space. Such calls intensified and gained momentum after the killing of the two brothers; Benson Njiru Ndwiga,22, and Emmanuel Mutura Ndwiga,19 by police during curfew hours and the roadside meeting that Hon. Raila Odinga addressed in Nakuru on his way to Sarova Woodlands Hotel.
The two brothers now popularly referred to as the Kianjokoma brothers were arrested at Kianjokoma Market for contravening curfew regulations only for their bodies to be found later at a mortuary in Embu, 30 kilometres from their home.
The six police officers involved in the deaths have been suspended pending hearing of their murder charges.
