Situation of theft of Kenya Power cables and meters in Migori County

Two suspects aligned with theft of KPLC Cables were on Sunday arrested and items belonging to Kenya Power recovered at Utoma village, Awendo sub county in Migori.


The Area Assistant chief Mr. Ezakiel Oware said the suspects, who were in a team of six, were busted by locals while the four others managed to escape.


The angry villages who Raided The Suspects caught two of the six during a haunt lead by the area Chief.


As reported, one of the suspected vandals was already on top of the poll when the residents became suspicious and ambushed them.


The two suspects were handed over to officers at Awendo Police Station and are to be arraigned in court on Monday.


The area assistant chief said they suspect that the vandals are part of a crime syndicate that has been dismantling transformers and stealing power meters in the region in reference to the earlier occurrence at Kambogo in Uriri sub county where a transformer was vandalized and content stolen.


The arrest comes a few days after a transformer at Yago in Awendo Sub County was vandalized.


In an earlier interview reports received from Radio Ramogi, Kenya Power manager for Migori County George Nyambare said 15 transformers have been vandalized in the county in the past four months.


Mr. Nyambare said the theft of transformers has undermined power supply in the county.

The members of the public are now urged to work closely with are police, local administrators and Kenya Power to protect the transformers and power supply in the areas.


In the past one month, Kenya Power seized over power meters stolen from other counties.


There have been other instances of unrecognized Power meter in different areas.
