Big Blow To Teachers As Ministry Of Education Plans To Do The Following
According to the Standards Digital report, primary and secondary schools will be required to have sports committees to manage the teaching of physical education. The new government policy was reported to be aiming at entrenching games as a critical component of curriculum.
It was noted that schools will be required to have most teachers trained and regularly retrained to teach physical education as indicated in the new guidelines.
However physical education is currently taught in schools, it was reported to be taken on light note by most of the teachers since it’s non-examinable. They say it’s time to ban on ranking of schools on National examinations, a move which seemed to have encouraged many.
According to the Standards Digital news, most Mps were seen to be against curriculum reforms. This was after a view that 8-4-4 system has been a raw deal to many since it started.
It was reported that a new physical education and policies of sports was to be launched by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha. This system was reported to be compulsory to all the teachers.
According to Standards, the emphasis on physical education is meant to introduce new competency based curriculum. Sports was also regarded as carrier pathway for many students.
