A 25-year-old woman has been arrested in Samoget village in Bomet East Sub-county for allegedly hacking her boyfriend to death following a dispute over a mobile phone.
Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa said the suspect, Faith Cherono, reportedly went to her boyfriend’s house on Tuesday to demand the return of a phone she claimed was hers.
An argument allegedly broke out between the two, though they later agreed to settle the matter later in the day. However, witnesses later saw the couple walking together toward the Mau Forest area shortly after the disagreement.
Police investigations reveal that Cherono allegedly attacked her boyfriend, 33-year-old Emanuel Kiprono, in the Mau Forest area, fatally striking him on the back of the head with a sword.
After the attack, the suspect reportedly fled the scene and crossed into Narok County, where she later surrendered at Tendwet Police Station.
Officers who visited the crime scene found Kiprono’s body with a deep cut on the back of his head. His remains were taken to Tenwek Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police have confirmed that the suspect is now in custody as investigations into the fatal confrontation continue.
