Demonstrations Erupt In Mumias As Echesa Leads Angry Residents To Protest Over This
Demonstration is reportedly high in Mumias town against Kakamega senator Cleopas Malala demanding Devki group to invest in the Mumias Sugar Company, this after it was alleged that the senator and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi demanded a whopping 100M shilings bribe from the bider, which has since anger most of the farmers and Kenyas due to the bad state the company has always been in recent past.
This came bare a week after the Devki billionaire Dr Narendra Raval withdrawn his bid to lease the Mumias Sugar Company which is in receivership.
In a press statement dated Friday, June 4, Raval said that the company had found it nice to take out its application following the ongoing public interest that the matter had attracted.
“As a local investor with deep understanding of the local operations, we had expressed interest in reviving the miller, following an invitation by the Receiver Manager.
“We will however express interest, should the exercise be conducted in consultation with all the stakeholders,” reads an excerpt of the statement.
But as at yesterday On Sunday June 6, 2021, Raval said he will wait for 30 days to allow stakeholders including farmers, leaders and the local community to agree then renew his bid to take over the firm that has been under receivership since 2019.
