TikTok content creators in Kenya could soon start earning directly from the government to promote Kenya Kwanza administration projects.
The Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, Dennis Itumbi, unveiled a new initiative aimed at supporting creators whose work aligns with President William Ruto’s national development priorities.
Speaking during a creator education forum in Nairobi, Itumbi announced that the government was ready to fund creators who excelled at producing content across key sectors tied to Ruto’s development agenda.
“The government is willing to put in money specifically for a few things it is currently doing, and I want creators to take advantage,” Itumbi said. He added, “If you do content around housing, health, job creation and agriculture, we are willing to give money for it.”

Itumbi explained that under the model, the government would provide official briefs, which creators could adapt into digital content suitable for platforms like TikTok.
He also pointed out that the government had shifted its advertising policy, from mainstream media to digital platforms. He recalled one of President Ruto’s first directives in 2022, which was to direct at least 30 percent of government advertisements to digital channels.
At the same forum, Itumbi urged social media platforms that have yet to introduce monetization tools for Kenyan creators to do so, noting that Kenya boasts one of the world’s largest social media user bases.
