IPOA Launches Investigations In Alleged Killing Of One Person In The Kahawa West Protests
The independent Police oversight authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the circumstances that led to the death of a 21 year old trader Alex Macharia who was allegedly killed by a stray police bullet during demonstrations in Kahawa west earlier yesterday.
Traders were protesting the demolition of their kiosks by the Nairobi Metropolitan services in which they engaged police in the morning battles and the better part of yesterday morning.
Police officers were forced to lob teargas at protesters in Kahawa west in which the angry traders attacked the police officers with stones. The traders who were furious at the Nairobi Metropolitan officials who destroyed their kiosks in the middle of the night knew no peace as thousands of them counted losses.
Angry traders blocked all roads leading to the estate as the situation had been aggravated by a report of the death of one of them by a stray bullet. Many of them are complaining about a fury that they were not issued with any notice of demolitions which has left them in great losses.
The Kasarani police sub-country commander had to call for the reinforcement of the GSU. The arrival of the officers forced the protesters to retreat as the officers continued to deal with a few adamant protesters.
