“Stop Uprooting Your Leaders”: Kagwe Warns Mt Kenya as He Throws Weight Behind Ruto Richard Kamau

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has urged Kenyans to reject divisive politics and instead rally behind stable, long-term leadership that delivers lasting development.

While speaking during a church service on Sunday in Othaya, Nyeri County, Kagwe warned that Mt Kenya often weakens itself by turning against its own leaders instead of supporting and growing them.

“We are not a people who jump with emotions every time and spend all our energy criticising. That is not leadership,” Kagwe said.

“Development comes when you allow good leaders to serve, to grow, and to complete what they started.”

Kagwe noted that other regions have achieved strong political and economic progress because they consistently invest in their leaders, allowing them to gain experience, influence, and networks that eventually uplift their communities.

“Leadership is grown, not rented for one term. You cannot uproot your crops every five years and expect a harvest,” CS Kagwe said.

He challenged Mt Kenya to take a more strategic approach to national politics and to stop allowing emotional reactions to push the region away from government.

Kagwe also praised President William Ruto for showing political maturity, pointing to his own appointment to the Agriculture docket despite not supporting Ruto in the last election.

“That is leadership with wisdom,” Kagwe said. “It shows this government is about building a nation, not settling political scores.”

He called on the clergy to pray for Kenya’s leaders and voters, stressing that the country needs people who make decisions based on the future rather than personal or political grudges.

Kagwe said he remains firmly part of the government and fully supports President Ruto’s agenda, adding that he plans to back the administration even beyond the next general election.

“This is about continuity, stability and building systems that last,” Kagwe said. “That is how Mt Kenya and Kenya as a whole will prosper.”

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, and Members of Parliament from Othaya, Mathira, and Nyeri Town joined other leaders at the church service.
