Violence Escalates in Haiti: Joint Forces Suffer Fatal Blow in Kenscoff Ambush

In a tragic turn of events, a joint operation between Kenyan police and Haitian forces faced a deadly ambush in the suburb of Kenscoff, located southeast of Port-au-Prince. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, April 20, 2025, resulted in the deaths of three Haitian military personnel and left four others wounded.

According to officials, the group was conducting a coordinated patrol when they were attacked by armed members of a local gang network. In response, a large-scale security operation has been launched involving aerial surveillance and modern tracking technology to locate the assailants.

The Haitian government has recognized the fallen soldiers as national heroes, lauding their dedication to restoring peace and order in one of the country’s most volatile regions. The area has been under constant threat due to the aggressive activities of Viv Ansanm, a well-known gang alliance.

This incident follows another grim event that took place on March 25, where a Kenyan officer, Benedict Kabiru, lost his life during a similar mission in Lower Artibonite. The clash also saw the destruction of three armored vehicles by the attackers.

The latest losses underscore the daunting challenges faced by the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) as it strives to curb the rising tide of gang violence in Haiti.
