Thursday, February 16, 2023 – Police are investigating the possible murder of NHIF branch manager Mary Waithera, who was shot on Monday while walking along Kaunda Street in Nairobi Central Business District.
Waithera complained of sharp pain before collapsing.
She was rushed to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.
After a postmortem was conducted, it was established that a bullet was lodged in her lungs.
This informed the sudden change of events from a sudden death to a complex investigation of a possible murder.
Apparently, no one saw blood on the ground where Waithera lay after collapsing.
According to a police officer involved in investigations, whoever killed her is well trained.
“We think whoever did it (the shooting) is a well-trained person,” the investigator said.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei said the person who shot Waithera was probably on top of a building and had a clear view of the deceased.
The single bullet was fired from an elevated angle.
It went through Waithera’s left collarbone and into her lungs.
Of keen interest to the investigators is a unit of the police that sits in one of the buildings adjacent to where Waithera was shot.
