“You Gave Me the Government”: Ruto Moves to Lock In Mt Kenya Support Ahead of 2027 Richard Kamau

President William Ruto has firmly declared that no one will succeed in driving a wedge between him and the people of the Mt Kenya region, vowing to protect and strengthen the political partnership that powered his rise to the presidency.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service at ACK St Paul’s Church Kariki in Othaya, Nyeri County, Ruto said unnamed individuals are working behind the scenes to sow division between him and the region that overwhelmingly backed him in the 2022 General Election. He dismissed those efforts as futile.

“There are people who think they can create a rift between me and people of Mt Kenya,” Ruto said. “They cannot destroy what the region and I have built together. That is impossible.”

The President told those seeking to weaken his relationship with Mt Kenya to abandon their mission, insisting that he remains firmly aligned with the people of the Mountain.

“I am the President of Kenya because of your votes. The government I am running today is because of your votes. You gave me the opportunity to serve you,” he said.

Ruto said the support from Mt Kenya has given him a clear mandate to deliver on critical national priorities, including education, agriculture, business growth, infrastructure, and energy.

“I know the test is in 2027 and everybody will be assessed according to the work they have done,” he said.

He added that voters in Nyeri and across Mt Kenya evaluate leaders based on tangible results and clear plans rather than personalities or theatrics.

“Do people in Nyeri elect leaders based on their looks? You elect people on the work they have done and their plan. We will meet in 2027 with those who like insulting other leaders,” Ruto said.

The church service drew a strong lineup of national and regional leaders, including Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, and Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami.

Ruto used the event to underline his commitment to consolidating support in the Mt Kenya region as Kenya moves closer to the 2027 General Election, signaling that he intends to campaign on his development record and delivery to the people.
