The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student who was killed in what cops suspect to be a love triangle in Homa Bay town was a staunch Christian. According to her friends and classmates, Emily Chepkemboi loved God, was loving and hardly missed church.
Chepkemboi’s body, which had stab wounds on the head, neck and back, was found inside her rental house on July 4th.
It is suspected that the 23-year-old student, who was pursuing a diploma in Clinical Medicine, was raped before being stabbed to death with a knife. The body was discovered by neighbours who got suspicious over a foul smell emanating from the house.
According to neighbours, Chepkemboi was last seen fetching water at the common area and an unknown man had visited her on the evening of July 2.
However, a local newspaper has revealed details about the life of the butchered student. Chepkemboi’s friend and classmate, Michelle Akinyi said she was a Christian, who used to preach to them about upholding Christian values in their lives.
“We used to go to church together with her on Sunday. She was humble and her deeds portrayed Christianity, whenever she interacted with students in the college,” Akinyi said according to The Nairobian newspaper.
Her colleagues also say that there are many people she supported emotionally, materially and she used to advise people. Her death came as a shocker to many.
Most of her friends confirmed that Chepkemboi was single and was not involved with any man.
Chepkemboi’s brother, Joseph Kipruto said they were shocked to learn of the death of their sister, whom she described as humble and loving.
Kipruto added that her sister had big dreams and was hoping to one day become a top doctor in the country.
“All we want is justice for my sister. It is said that she was murdered in cold blood. She had a son who is eight years old and now, he has been left without a mother, he said, adding, “She was acquiring training to help citizens of this country in future. Today, the family, the whole village and the entire school community are mourning her death,” said Kipruto.
Postmortem results, according to Kipruto, indicate that Chepkemboi was stabbed with a sharp object twice on the forehead and once on the upper left arm.
“The results also indicated that the assailants also suffocated her. I don’t understand who would do this to my sister,” said Kipruto.
Homa Bay Sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Monica Berege said they have arrested a suspect, who holds crucial leads on the death of the student.
“We expect to find crucial leads on who killed the lady,” Berege said.
The body was moved to Homa Bay County Hospital mortuary before it was later transferred to Samaritan mortuary in Kapsabet.
Chepkmoi, who is an orphan, was born at Kimulgumet Village, Emgwen Constituency in Nandi County
