Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission I EBC has disqualified former Nairobi County Governor Hon. Mike Sonko from seeking Mombasa gubernatorial seat.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati says that as per the law, any public officer who has been impeached for contravening Chapter 6 of the constitution cannot hold any public office through election or appointment.
Hon. Mike Sonko was seeking the seat on Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party ticket to replace Hon. Joho where Orange Democratic Movement party candidate Hon. Abdulswamad and United Democratic Movement party candidate Omar Hassan Saarai are seen to be now the remaining contestants.
