Friday, February 24, 2023 – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed the reason why former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was on Thursday fired by the African Union as the High Representative for Infrastructure Development for Africa.
In a statement, AU chairman Moussa Faki said the role Raila was playing will be taken over by New Partnership for Africa’s Development commonly known as NEPAD.
Speaking on Friday when he accompanied President William Ruto in opening Taifa Gas Project at Dongo Kundu, Mombasa County, Gachagua said Raila was fired from AU for engaging in demonstrations which is not one of the ideals of the continental body.
“Raila Odinga had a huge job at AU, he was fired because he left it to go and hold demonstrations. Those AU people did the right thing,” Gachagua said.
The second in command further blasted Raila Odinga for threatening to call for nationwide protests in the next 14 days, telling him to use proper channels to address his grievances.
