Deputy Governor of nyeri county, Dr. Caroline Karugu was sworn in as the deputy county boss on the 4th of May 2018. Governor Mutahi Kahiga saying he had appointed Caroline to help field the big shoes left by his boss Dr. Wahome Gakuru, who died a few months after taking office.
The relationship between the two however went south and on December 10th same year, after allegations of a physical confrontation in a cabinet meeting, the two addressed the press to downplay the fallout. The differences have landed in court.
Documents filed in the labor court, alleges that she’s not received her pay since November 2019, despite the fact she is in office legally and is entitled to a salary of 685, 450 shillings monthly.
She said she has not received her allowances, including transport allowance and has incurred more than 400, 000 shillings in transport cost. Deputy Governor further alleges that despite being a member of the cabinet, she has not received any invite to attend any cabinet meetings since April 2019.
Karugu adding that she has been denied access to her office, some of her staff taken from her, and her security compromised.
She says she spends 15,000 shillings every month for her security. The matter has been certified as urgent and will be back in court on the 16th of September 2021.
